What Does the Domain Name Tell You About a Site?
Look at the URL for a web site to determine the type of web site you have found:
.edu = educational site
.com = commercial site
.gov = U.S. government site
.org = non-profit organization site (usually, but not always)
.mil = U.S. military sites and agencies
.net = networks/Internet Service Providers
Note that the type of web site alone does not indicate whether a site is useful or not, but does inform your evaluation.
Your Mission
Danger! Panic! Disaster!
Zombies have invaded the AU campus! You have barricaded yourself with a group of other survivors in the AU Library for the time being. Someone (probably one of those know it all librarians!) suggests using the library's resources to make a plan. What to do? Where to go? What kind of supplies do you need?
You have been tasked with searching the Web for any information you can find as quickly as possible, but it must be reliable! Your survival may depend on it! Other people are looking for books and in the library's databases, so your search is for anything on the internet that meets the following criteria:
1) Authority
2) Currency
3) Scope
4) Objectivity/Accuracy
After some quick thinking about keywords, you've performed a Google search using the following terms: surviving zombie attack,
and decide to evaluate the following sites:
http://nymag.com/guides/everything/zombies/
http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-survive-a-zombie-attack/
http://blogs.cdc.gov/publichealthmatters/2011/05/preparedness-101-zombie-apocalypse/
Now go to the tabs for each of the criteria above to evaluate these sites before it's too late!
