EBSCO has added powerful new Citation and Reference tools in EBSCOhost to help you depend your research and better understand the scholarly impact of a work.

Watch the tutorial: Using Citation Discovery and References - EBSCO Academy Video (6 min)

The Cited by feature shows how many times an article has been referenced by other scholarly works. This will help you:

  • See how influential an article is in the academic community.
  • Discover related works and build a strong literature review.

Citation counts are generated from the EBSCO Scholarly Graph, which pulls data from EBSCO, major publishers, and trusted data partners. Citation links are created when title-author matches identify that a work has been cited in other research.

An article from the EBSCO results that shows that other researchers cited it 19 times.

The References features shows you the list of works that the author cited in the original article. This will help you:

  • Identify research the author used.
  • Quickly explore related sources.

When a work's DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is available, EBSCO check its Scholarly Graph for reference links. If matches are found, they'll be displayed under the “References” tab on the articles detail page.

A restricted article from Sage Journals. A blue button with the words The library now offers a powerful tool called LibKey that helps you find and access scholarly articles more quickly and efficiently. Whether you are starting your research in the library catalog, exploring a database, or browsing the web, LibKey works in the background to connect you directly to the full-text PDF of an article when it is available.

LibKey removes unnecessary steps by skipping confusing links and login screens, saving you time and reducing frustration when trying to access academic materials. It also works with tools you already use, including publisher websites, PubMed, Google Scholar, and others, making it easier to find what you need without delay.

LibKey includes several helpful components:

  • LibKey Discovery improves article links in the library catalog for one-click PDF access
  • LibKey.io allows you to search for articles using a DOI or PMID
  • LibKey Nomad is a browser extension that finds full-text articles as you browse online

To learn more and start using LibKey, visit our LibKey Research Guide for detailed instructions, video tutorials, and helpful tips.
