Videos/DVDs for Class

If you plan to show a clip from one of Phillips Library's videos/DVDs in class, please contact the library at 630-844-7534. Please make your request as early in the term as possible to ensure the desired item is available.

Course Reserve Basics

Course reserves can be checked out for two hours at a time. This makes the reserved item available to as many people as possible.

To place an item on reserve, you must give the library two-day advance notice and at least one clean copy of the item. The library will affix a barcode number to each copy.

Please indicate the length of time the item should remain on reserve. Items can remain on the shelf for more than one term if necessary. Personal copies should be picked up from the library at the end of the term or when they are no longer needed for a course.

Please note: Print reserves must comply with copyright law. An interlibrary loaned book or article may not be placed on reserve.

Contact the Access and Collection Services Librarian if you have questions about reserves.

Electronic Reserves

Phillips Library now offers an E-Reserve service. The library creates an organized list of links to articles and e-book chapters for material that we already own and places this list in your course Brightspace page. We can also provide access to PDF scans so long as those scans comply with copyright. These lists can be embedded directly into BrightSpace with enabling an external tool.

Electronic Reserves will not roll over into the next semester. The library will maintain a repository of your cited materials for future use, but the contents of each module will need to be reviewed each semester to assess relevance, check subscription status, and verify copyright compliance.

Aurora University Faculty Guidelines

  • If the Library subscribes to the e-journal or e-book, we will provide a link that allows students to access the material using their AU username and password. The Library can also make scan copies of our physical materials and upload them to your course. If the Library does not have access to the item, we will make arrangements to obtain copies of the requested reading and the instructor or department must purchase a license for each item that will be used for the course. Licensing can be purchased from the Copyright Clearance Center
  • Electronic Reserves requests are processed in the order they are received. Requests must be submitted using the Electronic Reserves Request Form at least one week prior to the first day of class or the expected date when the materials should be imported into the course. This ensures that the reading list will be fully built and integrated on time.
  • All documents stored in the Electronic Reserves database are protected under U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17 U.S. Code), which governs the reproduction of copyrighted material. It is the instructor's responsibility to secure permission to use material if necessary.

Please contact Mariah Tennell if you have any questions.
