Phillips Library allows for AU students, faculty, and staff to utilize I-Share.
I-Share library patrons may locate and borrow items from other I-Share libraries when those items are not available at their local library.
This can include:
Books
DVDS
Other materials the I-Share library allows to be borrowed.
Electronic journal articles
E-Books
Reserves
There is no cost to use I-Share.
Typically it takes 4-5 business days for the item to arrive at Phillips Library.
Notification will be sent to your AU email address.
Present your AU I.D. at the information desk to checkout your I-Share item. If you don’t live near the university to pick up your I-Share item, you can choose a different preferred pick-up location when completing the I-Share request form in Spartan Search. Locate the "Find & Request I-Share Items In Spartan Search" tutorial for additional guidance.

Media: 14 Days, no renewals
The due date for the I-Share item will be sent to your AU email. I-Share now offers auto-renewals, automatically extending the loan period of borrowed items. Please check your email or I-Share account regularly for updates on your due date to ensure timely return of the item.
You can choose to return the I-Share item to Phillips Library or any affiliated I-Share library. Take a look at the I-Share Members list or the I-Share Members Map to determine your options for returns.
If an I-Share item is damaged or lost, you must contact the lending library for billing and payment information. Contact information for each I-Share library can be found here. Payment options are determined by the I-Share Library not Phillips Library.
Your I-Share account may be blocked due to the following:
Overdue or lost I-Share item.
Recalled I-Share item not returned.
Library fee still owed to the lending I-Share library.
To resolve blocks on your I-Share account, contact the lending I-Share library that you borrowed the item from.
If you can't find the item through Phillips Library or I-Share, try using our other interlibrary loan service, Tipasa.
Phillips Library allows for AU students, faculty, and staff to utilize Tipasa

There is no cost to utilize interlibrary loan services. However, not all requests can be fulfilled due to the lending library charging for the item or the item is not available. Email notifications will be sent to your AU email address if a request is cancelled or cannot be fulfilled. For articles that cannot be fulfilled, the library will send an email that requires a response from the patron to have the library purchase a copy of the article on their behalf.
Typically 1-2 business days
2-3 Weeks
When materials arrive, notification will be sent to your AU email address. Print materials will be held for 2 weeks. After the 2 weeks, the item will be returned to the lending library. If you would like for your items to be held for longer, please email docdel@aurora.edu.
The loan period and renewal options are determined by the lending library. The loan periods are usually 2 to 4 weeks. If you would like to request a renewal, do so through your Tipasa account. If you are having issues requesting the renewal, please email docdel@aurora.edu.
Once the article is sent to your AU email, it is available for 30 days or 5 views, which ever comes first.
Books borrowed through interlibrary loan must be picked up at and returned to Phillips Library. For AU online students, you may make arrangements to have someone pick-up your books on your behalf. Please fill out the Interlibrary Loan Proxy Form before sending your proxy to pick-up your materials. Your proxy must show a valid I.D. to pick up your items, and once they do, you assume full responsibility for the care and return of the item. For those who plan to return their books to Phillips Library by U.S. mail, it is highly recommended that you place tracking information on your package as to avoid financial responsibility for the item being lost in-transit.
Please use the following return address: Aurora University Phillips Library 347 S. Gladstone Ave. Aurora, Illinois 60506-4892
This means that the lending library needs the book back for the possible reasons:
The book is needed for a course reserve
Another patron is in need of this book.
The book is needed back for technical services
Regardless, you are required to return the book back to Phillips Library by the requested date made by the lending library. Failure to return the book will result in you being charged a fee.
A patron's account is blocked due to the following:
One or more overdue books.
Outstanding fines from a library.
A recalled item not returned.
The reasoning for your account being blocked, will be sent to your AU email. Any questions can be sent to docdel@aurora.edu
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction.
One of these specific conditions is that photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purposes other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use." that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if , in its judgement, fulfillment of the order would violate copyright law.
