Credible Sources

Books (electronic or print)

Books are a great starting point for this assignment. Their coverage is broad and in depth. Use the Table of Contents at the front of the book to browse chapter content and the Index at the end to look up specific terms. eBooks have an additional feature called "search within" that allows you to search the full text of the book. Please note, it is acceptable to use a single relevant chapter from a book. You do not need to read the whole text.

Research (Scholarly) or Professional Articles

Scholarly research articles have been through the peer-review process. Simply put, peer-reviewed journals use experts to review articles before publication. This is a rigorous process that takes several months. Professional articles appear in trade journals. They are written by members of a particular profession for others of the same profession. Articles tend to be more narrow in scope, rather than giving a broad overview of a particular healthcare system, they will focus on one small aspect.

Websites .edu, .org and .gov

Limit your results in Google search by using the limiter site:. For example: Israel Healthcare -site:.com. This search will only return results from website that do not end in .com. Another example: Germany Healthcare site:.edu. This search will only return results from sites that end in .edu.

Research Tips

Developing Keywords

Take a few minutes to consider your search terms.

Country Healthcare Culture
Country Name - Ireland Healthcare System Values
Country Demonym - Irish Health System Identity
Broader - United Kingdom Health Policy Beliefs
Boolean Operators

Library databases use Boolean Logic to retrieve results. There are three Boolean Operators, AND, OR and NOT.

  • AND narrows search results. For example, Spain AND Healthcare. This search will show results that mention both Spain and Healthcare.
  • OR broadens search results. For example, Italy OR Italian. This search will show results that mention Italy or mention Italians.
  • NOT eliminates results that contain a certain term. For example, North America NOT United States. This search would show results that mention North America, but not the United States.

Boolean Operators join together search terms into search statements. For example, (Mexico OR Mexican) AND (Healthcare OR Health System).

  • Yes! I recommend Google for this assignment. Use the limiter -site: to remove .com websites from your results list. Many countries have information about their health care systems and policies online.
