An overview of Google Scholar's features and functions

Advanced search

The "Advanced search" link found in the dropdown menu provides more precise ways of searching by title and subject, and ways to search for a particular author, journal or date range.

  • "All of the words" is a boolean AND search (role AND prosecutors AND juvenile AND justice AND reform)
  • "The exact phrase" is a boolean ADJ search or double quote search (racehorse ADJ welfare, "racehorse welfare")
  • "At least one of the words" is a boolean OR search (norway OR sweden OR scandinavia)
  • "Without the words" adds a boolean NOT search term to any of the above searches ("racehorse welfare" NOT "United States")

At the upper right corner of the search results page are found various ways to limit the search results (by date or by publication type) and to re-sort the results.
