Searching Tips for Finding Sammy

Searching Strategy for finding Sammy

Are you having a hard time finding Sammy in our collection?

Here are some tips on locating the item in our catalog!

Select the green magnifying glass from our homepage to get to our catalog.

Using the hint from the whiteboard, let's use the bolded keywords to search in our catalog. Let's take a look at the example below:

Hint of the week: Sammy is visiting his friend, Tish, who lives in Harlem in New York City. She is devastated that her fiance Fonny has been arrested for a crime he did not commit. While Fonny is in jail, she tells him she is pregnant with his child.

We can see that TIshFonny, and Harlem are keywords we should use in our search.

In Spartan Search, let's begin searching for the item. In the filter, let's type in Tish

From our results, we can see that many unrelated items appear.

Let's narrow down our results. Select Advance Search next to the search bar.

Select Books and Media as a filter. We can also create a Boolean Operator to combine multiple keywords. Let's type in: "Tish" AND "Harlem"

The DVD If Beale Street Could Talk appears. This might be the item that we are looking for. Let's take a look at the item description and confirm.

Yes, this is the item! Now we need to know how to locate this DVD. If you scroll up from the Item Description section to the Location Items section, you will see the Call Number for the item. The Call Number is DVD IF, and it's currently on Exhibit. The Exhibit locations are the 3 bookshelves near the library's front entrance.

If you still have issues finding the item, don't hesitate to ask a librarian!
