Academic Support Center FAQ

How to check if there are available tutors for a course

The Academic Support Center can provide writing tutoring for all courses. Writing specialist tutors are able to work with students at all stages of the writing process, from brainstorming to final touches and citation help.

To check if the Academic Support Center currently offers content tutoring for a specific course:

  • Log into Academic SupportNet through Okta
  • Choose either the "Subject Specialist" tutoring calendar or the "Subject Peer Tutor" calendar at the top left corner of SupportNet
  • Click the "Purpose of Visit" drop-down menu to see a list of all the courses
  • Not seeing your course? Try looking for it on both the "Subject Peer Tutor" calendar and the "Subject Specialist" calendar.

When you select a course on the "Purpose for your Visit" drop-down menu, the schedule will automatically filter to show you the appropriate staff or tutors qualified to meet with you.

If you don't see the course you're looking for on either the "Subject Peer Tutor" or "Subject Specialist" Calendar:

  • Please email the Academic Support Center at asc@aurora.edu and let us know. We may be able to locate a tutor for you, and we appreciate knowing what additional courses we should recruit tutors for.
  • Consider making an Academic Coaching appointment on the "Writing and Academic Coaching" calendar. While Academic Coaches don't tutor course concepts, they can help with developing additional study strategies, including a study plan and schedule, time management tools, tools for note-taking and for reading difficult texts, as well as overall test-preparation strategies.
  • The Academic Support Center always encourages students to talk with their course instructor, and if possible to attend any office hours for additional assistance in the course.
