The PDF either comes from the publisher or their official version (based on Unpaywall data), but it's stored in a repository like PubMed Central or a university archive. |

Manuscript PDF

The article was found as an Accepted Manuscript in a repository. It’s been peer-reviewed, but likely isn’t in its final published format, so it might look like an unformatted Word document or similar. These files never require a login. |

Same as above, but it may take one extra click to reach the PDF if it is available. No login is needed. |
